The Sangomas: South Africa’s Traditional Healers
Sangomas – the traditional healers of South
Africa – have lived in the southernmost
regions of Africa, as a result of the Bantu
migrations, since around AD 500. Their highly
respected and sacred status within various South
African tribal communities has remained constant
and indispensable over centuries of social change
and technological innovation.
